re:wire

Nice to see Wire getting some attention online lately. A new album, Object 47, has been announced for release next month.

Wire songs have been covered by REM, MBV, Big Black and many others. Here are a few lesser known Wire covers. One each from the albums Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, and 154, all of which are essential to own.

A little known fact about Wire is that their song "Ex Lion Tamer" is based on the true story of a lion tamer who had to retire due to work-related injuries. His name? Claude Balls.

Scrawl: Reuters (buy Bloodsucker)
Band of Susans: Too Late (buy The Peel Sessions)
Monks of Doom: The 15th (buy What's Left for Kicks)

Wire is one of my all time favorite art/punk bands. I'll be looking forward to hearing Object 47.

There are so many great Wire covers by many great bands, you've posted a nice selection.

What about the mid-90s Wire - Elastica 'Connection'?

Thought I'd send a great two song set by Mike Watt & the Missing Men covering Wire's "3 Girl Rhumba" & "Ex-Lion Tamer".

Enjoy

Nathan, you are the man. "His name is Mike Watt! He's gonna get caught! Here's a knuckle of defiance to the group from New Alliance!" Thank you.

I think Elastica forgot to credit Wire (and the Stranglers) for their covers, but that error was corrected in copyright court.
